Catechism and Confirmation

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”   (Proverbs 22:6).

When our children reach the 6th grade, they begin being taught from Luther’s Small Catechism, a brief discourse of the doctrines taught in God’s Holy Word.

On Wednesday evenings, from 6:00-7:00 PM, they meet with the pastor, who discusses doctrine and application, while allowing the students to grow in their own faith and confession.  This is a time when our youth get the pastor all to themselves, that they might hear God’s Word, ask serious questions, and have dynamic dialogue (and a lot of fun!).

Following their study, the students are then “confirmed” in their faith at a special service, after which they will receive the Sacrament of the Altar, for forgiveness, life and salvation, and for strength of faith as they journey through this world.
