Stillwater Middle School Bands

In April, 2018, PONY BAND-RED and PONY BAND-BLACK competed at the Heritage Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois. At the festival, the PONY BAND-BLACK received a 1st place "Gold" rating, and the PONY BAND-RED a 2nd place "Silver" rating, both competed in the Middle School Classification. Trumpeter John  Benson received a special "Maestro Award" for his solo work on the song "Psalm 42".

Mr. Walk directs all the following groups for 2017-2018:

SMS PONY BAND-RED 
SMS PONY BAND-BLACK 
SMS 7th Grade Bands 
SMS 6th Grade Bands 
SMS Jazz "Lab" Band 
The Stillwater Summer Jazz Clinic

Mr. Walk holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and a Masters of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

In addition to instructing these groups, Mr. Walk is active as a performer in the Twin Cities Area as a saxophonist, performing with groups such as the SCJO Jazz Ensemble, JAZZMN Big Band, the JAZZAX Sax Quartet, various Pop/Cover Horn Bands in the area, and occasionally with the Minnesota Orchestra.

Mr. Walk has been on the faculty of the Shell Lake Jazz Camp since 1991.

Mr. Walk is also the director of the  Summer Jazz Clinic (see sidebar), and was the guest director/clinician for the Saint Croix Valley Educators Association Honors Band and the Stillwater Schools "Sinfonia" project.
