Stillwater Middle School Bands

In April, 2017, the WHITE BAND, PONY BAND-RED and PONY BAND-BLACK competed at the Heritage Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois. At the festival, ALL the Bands received a "Gold" rating. The Red Band AND White Band placed 1st and 2nd in the Middle School Band Category. The Red Band received the "Adjudicator's Award" for placing first among all the bands at the festival, including High School Level Bands. The Bands, Orchestra, and the Choir combined to win the "Sweepstakes Award" for the highest score for a music department at the festival.

Mr. Walk directs all the following groups for 2017-2018:

SMS PONY BAND-RED (Grade 8)
SMS PONY BAND-BLACK (Grade 8) 
SMS 7th Grade Band (2 Sections)
SMS 6th Grade Band (6 Sections)
SMS Jazz "Lab" Band (Before School on Tuesdays)

Stillwater Fifth Grade "Sinfonia" Honors Band
Stillwater Summer Jazz Clinic

Mr. Walk holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and a Masters of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

In addition to instructing these groups, Mr. Walk is active as a performer in the Twin Cities Area as a saxophonist, performing with groups such as the SCJO Jazz Ensemble, JAZZMN Big Band, the JAZZAX Sax Quartet, various Pop/Cover Horn Bands in the area, and occasionally with the Minnesota Orchestra.

Mr. Walk has been on the faculty of the Shell Lake Jazz Camp since 1991.

Mr. Walk is also the director of the  Summer Jazz Clinic (see sidebar), and was the guest director/clinician for the Saint Croix Valley Educators Association Honors Band and the Stillwater Schools "Sinfonia" project.
