Welcome back!

On Monday, we will be practicing and reviewing math facts by playing various games outside. The rest of the week students will be participating in a STEM challenge. They will each be given 20 toothpicks and 10 gumdrops, and they will have to design a structure using all of the given materials that can support the weight of a textbook. Students will create sketches and take measurements of the various structures they make, and then determine which design was the best and why. Students will have to reflect on each design and determine how each one can be improved, modified, and changed.

Spring Break starts Friday!!!

This week in math skills students will be designing paper airplanes and making modifications to those airplanes to create a plane that flies the farthest in the class. Students will have access to various types of paper and weights (paper clips, coins, tape, staples, etc.) to create the planes. The students will measure each flight distance and redesign the planes to make them fly farther. Students will work in pairs and compete against the other students in the class to find the best overall design for the paper airplane. Students will calculate and graph the measures of central tendencies for both their planes and the overall data for the entire class. This will be a four day long project.
