The Navy Quilting Challenge - Thread Tails & Vapor Trails This Challenge is in honor of the 100th year of Naval Avation. Individual quilt makers are asked to create a 40” square quilt with a Naval Aviation theme, which could include airplanes, aircraft carriers, space, honoring an aviator, etc. No particular fabric is required. Group submissions (made by two or more people) can be 40” wide x 60” tall. Embellished quilts (beaded, crazy) can be 40"x40" or 20"x20" The deadline for online quilt submissions is October 1st, 2010. Selected quilts will travel in a minimum of four different collections to an estimated 100+ displays. The main traveling collection will be displayed at as many air shows as possible. An additional two collections will be featured at other CONA (Centennial of Naval Aviation) events and naval or military museums. The fourth collection will travel to quilt related shows and displays. Additional displays may be added to accommodate requests from exhibitors.

Quilt Challenge for the Global Fund In the summer of 2009, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, broadcast a challenge to quilters to help promote the important work of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by creating quilts on the theme, “Making a Healthier World for our Children.” Quilters were invited to create quilts related to this theme and highlighting the challenges in fighting these three pandemics, and to submit them for display at the United Nations in Geneva. The quilts will tour the United States with the Mancuso Quilt Festivals, making seven stops around the U.S. in 2010.

Houston Enriches Rice Education - 2010 Hearts, Hands and Heritage Quilt Competition - The Patchwork Soul of Women. Exhibit Thursday 10/21/10 thru Friday 11/19/10. The exhibit will introduce visitors to a collection of powerful works of art that illuninate both the spiritual and personal experiences of women. Our goal is to illustrate a broad range of artistic techniques and inspirations, shed light on the lives and experiences of quiltmakers, and examine the role women have played in education, politics, religion , the arts, business, the family and much more.
