This is the course website for SM473, Six Sources of Collapse, a capstone course in the majors administered by the Math department. The course is run by Professor Will Traves.
The overarching objective of the course is to try to understand a mathematical text by devising and carrying out multiple follow-on investigations and projects. We will do this in the context of the text, Six Sources of Collapse, but Charles R. Hadlock.
The Course Documents section contains readings as well as the course policy statement (which includes learning objectives for the course, grade breakdown, etc).
The policy statement also has a summary of the topics and projects that we might cover in this class. The topics are subject to change, in response to midshipman interest. The table below sketches out a list of class dates and assigned homework.
