Curriculum Overview

This next section of the SITP Curriculum Guidelines will discuss the intentions and expectations for each element within the daily Curriculum Overview table (which has the same format for each day).

In General…

This daily planning template is laid out with the intention of helping the museum educator:

  • Get specific on exactly what your goals for the students are for that day, and how that feeds into the overall learning objectives for the week
  • Visualize what successful achievement of those goals will look like
  • Ensure that the day starts out with a “hook” for students, to:
        • Gain their buy-in
        • Help them understand what they’ll be doing that day and why, and
        • Build their confidence and readiness to learn by connecting new concepts to prior knowledge and experiences
  • Keep the students at the center of the planning process, with a focus on hands-on, authentic learning experiences
  • Build in a reflection activity to help students recognize and solidify their learning
  • Think through how the Rosa Parks or Wilson teacher can be most effective during each part of the day (and what support they might need)
