Okra and Tomatoes

You may substitute 1 (16-oz) can tomatoes and juice, chopped.

4 or 5 fresh medium tomatoes
1-lb okra
1 large onion, chopped
2 Tbsp bacon grease
Salt and pepper

If using fresh tomatoes, peel and chop.

Wash and slice okra into rounds about 1/2-inch thick.

Saute onion and okra in grease until browned.

Add tomatoes, salt and pepper. Cover and cook slowly for 20 minutes. Add water if necessary to prevent sticking.

If too juicy, uncover and cook a little while longer.

Serve hot.
