Chocolate-Crème de Menthe Bars

Makes 48 bars

Dessert bars
4 (1-oz) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter or margarine
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract

4 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup green Crème de Menthe
1 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsels

Make dessert bars: Combine chocolate and butter in a saucepan; place over low heat, and stir until melted. Let stand 10 minutes.

Beat eggs until thick and lemon colored. Gradually add sugar, beating well at Medium speed of an electric mixer.

Add flour, salt, and vanilla; beat at Low speed of mixer 1 minute. Add chocolate mixture, and blend. Pour into lightly greased and floured 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan.

Bake at 350ºF for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 mins; spread Crème de Menthe Frosting on top.

Chill 4 hours.

Place chocolate morsels in a small, heavy saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted. Drizzle over frosting. Cut into squares immediately and chill for at least 1 hour.

Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Make Crème de Menthe frosting: Combine all ingredients except walnuts in a bowl; beat at high speed of an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in nuts and spread on cooled dessert bars.
