The Sioux Falls West Volleyball Club has concluded its last season as a non-profit organization. As the club's board of directors works to close out all remaining business, this page will officially close by the end of 2024.
With the closure/dissolution of the Sioux Falls West Volleyball Club, we would like to thank the MANY families, coaches, sponsors, fans and volunteer board members for the years of support and dedication to our amazing club. A recap of the history of the SF West Volleyball Club is below and those are all thanks to your contributions...you've all played a hand in creating a positive club volleyball environment that impacts hundreds of young volleyball athletes.
HISTORY OF SF WEST VOLLEYBALL CLUB:
Late 1990s, Sioux Empire JO Volleyball club formed with local HS coaches and Augie head coach; attracted players within 90 mile radius.
1998 as the club grew, RHS had predominately more players in the program and other HS coaches started to take notice of the benefit that RHS was getting; schools broke off to start their own JO programs.
1999-2003 – SF West Volleyball club was formed and comprised of 5 teams that played 5 tournaments March (after girls basketball season) through May with 2 practices/week.
2004 – New JO team formed by a former coach; no high school affiliation. This new club in additional to other competing clubs were starting their season in January and our players were being outmatched. Board made the decision to expand our season to Jan – May, cutting into the basketball season but giving the girls more time on the volleyball court to remain competitive with other clubs.
2005 – All girls tried out in Dec, those not in basketball started their vb season in Jan and teams were shifted in March when the basketball season was over. This caused tension and resentment among the players.
2006 – One season only, Jan – May, and worked to accommodate basketball schedules to not conflict with volleyball. This worked well; teams bonded, made the Kaepa National Qualifier and did well against nationally competitive teams.
2022 – Sioux Falls opens a new west side high school, Jefferson High School, and the club makes the decision to open SF West to both schools.
2024 - SF West board members approve a motion to open the boundaries of the club to allow any player in and around the Sioux Falls aread to tryout and play for the club. This allowed for better competition and opportunity for more volleyball athletes in the area.
Going forward, SF West Volleyball is endorsing Impact Sport Center, a new program on the west side of Sioux Falls whose innugaral club volleyball season will begin in 2025. Impact Sport Center is NOW OPEN and offers many camps, clinics and individualized coaching with one of Sioux Falls West's alumni players/coaches, Kaylee Wentz (formerly Kaylee Mediger).
