Rating System for Practicum Evaluation Criteria

Simpson candidates generally complete their practicum experiences during their junior year or first semester of the senior year. Please assess candidates based upon the expectations for candidates at this level rather than the level of student teachers or experienced teachers.
 
Each criteria is to be evaluated using a rating system based on five levels of competency (with an option for no evaluation due to lack of opportunity to observe):
 
Level 0 Not Observed/Assessed at this Time
No opportunity to adequately observe or assess this criterion during the practicum experience.

Level 1 Beginning -- not ready for student teaching
Candidate demonstrates little or weak knowledge, skill, and/or dispositions related to this criterion. 
With regard to this criterion, is not ready for student teaching.

Level 2 Developing -- not yet ready for student teaching
Candidate demonstrates limited understanding, skill, and/or dispositions related to this criterion; additional time, assistance, and/or remediation are required prior to the student teaching semester. 
With regard to this criterion, is not ready for student teaching.

Level 3 Competent at the Basic Level -- ready for student teaching
Candidate demonstrates knowledge, skill, and/or dispositions related to this criterion at a minimal competence level. 
With regard to this criterion, is ready for student teaching.

Level 4 Competent at the Advanced Level -- ready for student teaching
Candidate demonstrates a strong grasp of knowledge, skills, and/or dispositions related to this criterion. 
With regard to this criterion, is clearly ready for student teaching. The student is functioning at a level that exceeds the expectations of a practicum student. 

Level 5 Exceeds Advanced Level Expectations -- ready for student teaching
Candidate demonstrates an exceptional level of knowledge, skill, and dispositions related to this criterion. 
With regard to this criterion, is clearly ready for student teaching. The student is functioning at the level of an experienced student teacher.
