Coconut Rice | Kao Mun


  • 1 cup (250 mL)  Thai Jasmine Rice or Brown Rice
  • Enough rice to fill the can
  • Enough water to fill the can
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 5-6 cardamom pods (optional)
  • 1/2 lemon (optional)


  1. Empty can of coconut milk into a pot.
  2. Fill the can with rice and pour into the pan.
  3. Fill the can with water and pour into the pan swirling to get all of the rice out.
  4. Add 1/2 tsp of salt and cook on high until the mixture comes to a boil
  5. Reduce heat to medium, cover and cook for 20 minutes without removing the lid.
  6. Turn off the heat and serve the rice when you have finished preparing your meal. This can sit in the pot undisturbed for up to 10 minutes.  Fluff and serve.
  7. You only have one pot to wash!
