Glacial Lake Flood Events and Impacts on Climate

Large portions of upstate New York were inundated by glacial lake Iroquois, impounded by the Laurentide Ice Sheet as it retreated northward through the state ~14-13 ka. Sedimentological evidence in the region suggests catastrophic drainage events of Lake Iroquois. Working with the Coastal Systems and the National Ocean Science Accelerator Mass Spectrometer groups at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, our team of scientists, including undergraduates from Northeastern University recently cored several lakes in NY, retrieving ~130m of sediment in hopes of better constraining the timing of these flood events.
