Asphalt managed to get one back and made it a game when they scored on a mishandled ball by the Horizon keeper before the end of the 1st period.
In the 2nd half Horizon kept the heat on high scoring 2 more goals to give them a 4-1 win and the division title. Nermin finished with a brace while Piero and Danny had one a piece. Horizon White Finish Fall 2011 Season with Thrilling 3-3 Draw at Asphalt Green!
The final match of the Horizon White's Fall season went down in exciting fashion. The match, originally scheduled for Saturday 10/29, was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions. A win would improve the team's chances of finishing in 2nd place in the Fall CJSL Boys U-11C division,
Once again the match began with Horizon controlling the game with short passes and creating many chances on goal, but also failing to find the back of the net on those chances. Finally the pressure caused the Warriors to burst with under 10 minutes to play in the 1st half when Mark buried a shot to make it 1-0. Almost immediately after the 2nd half kickoff, Asphalt Green made it all square catching the Horizon backline off guard. Horizon would take the lead once again when Mark scored his 2nd of the match in the 42nd minute, but again they would concede another 7 minutes later. Then just a minute later the Warriors took the lead on a questionable goal when one of their players kicked the ball out of the Horizon keeper's hand while he appeared to have possession. With under 10 minutes to play Horizon made a heavy push forcing several corner kicks and shots on goal. With 5:30 to go Mark would emerge from a melee in front net and poke in his 3rd of the day, completing the hat trick. A few more opportunities would arise for the winner but none would get through.
In the end the 3-3 draw still leaves Horizon White with a chance at 2nd place but they will need to await the results of some other matches before finding out their fate.
Horizon White defeat Silver Lake SA Panthers!
In an exciting late season matchup, Horizon White defeated rival club, Silver Lake Soccer Academy Panthers 3-2 in boys U-11 CJSL play. Horizon dominated possession throughout most of the first half but failed to convert - then Cesar came on and worked his magic. In the 26th minute he made one of his mind-numbing runs through 2 defenders before slotting it past the keeper to put Horizon up 1-0.
Within a minute of the start of the 2nd half, Zivi sent Cesar a well placed through ball over the heads of 2 defenders. Cesar burned past them both before beating the keeper to make it 2-0. Horizon were create several more opportunities but were unable to finish them leaving the door open for Academy to get back into the match, which they would in the 50th minute when they broke the shutout to make it 2-1. Horizon would push back a minute later when Edgar found Mark at the top of the box; with no one pressuring him, Mark took a perfectly placed shot to make it 3-1. Academy would go all out on the attack and get another goal with 4 minutes remaining. The attack continued until the final whistle blew, fortunately Joe held down the fort with a few keys saves and Horizon held on for their 5th win of the season.
Tomorrow they travel to Asphalt Green for their final match of the season and a chance to take 2nd place in the C division.
Horizon Green Win! Sweep Brooklyn Patriots F.S.A. Magicos!
The Horizon Green train kept on rolling this Saturday with their 8th straight victory, defeating Brooklyn Patriots F.S.A. Magicos 4-2 in Boys U-11A CJSL play. Nermin, Piero, Sam & Danny all got on the scoresheet. The win today gives them the chance to clinch the U-11A Division Fall title. If Asphalt Green loses today to Real Buenavista then Horizon clinches. If Asphalt Green wins today, then Horizon will have another chance to clinch tomorrow as they face Asphalt Green on the road needing only a tie to clinch.
Horizon Green Wins 7th Straight!
It was a chilly November morning when Horizon Green faced Real Buenavista Deportivo Chautia, but things heated up real quick in this CJSL match. WIthin 15 minutes Horizon had a 5-0 lead with Chris and Nermin scoring 2 each and Piero netting one as well. Real Buenavista would get one back before the end of the half and follow it up with another moments into the 2nd half. In the 32nd minute Sam would score his first goal with the team to make it 6-1. Buenavista brought it to 6-3 in the 39th minute and that when the game reached it's boiling point. Throughout the match both teams were playing very physical but it was getting progressively worse as Horizon extended their lead with Buenavista going from physical to dirty and with about 20 minutes to play MIke got caught up with an opposing player, both boys went down in what seemed like a little scuffle and both were issued yellow cards
. Moments like this can take a team out of its rhythm but Horizon maintained theirs and went on to score once more when Chris completed his hat trick in the 46th minute. The 7-3 win brings them to 6-0-1 on the season.
Next week they will travel to the Parade Grounds to face Brooklyn Patriots F.S.A. Magico.
Horizon Green Advance to Knockout Stage of NY Cup!
In the 3rd and final match of the NY Cup group stage, Horizon Green would need at least a draw to secure their place in the knockout stage. Game 3 had them hosting Northport Cow Harbour Celtic who needed a win to prolong their Cup run. However, Horizon ended that dream early in and would turn it into a nightmare before the match was over.
Early on Northport would have several opportunities to take the lead but Kacper and the defense would snuff them out each time. Finally in the 16th minute Nermin found Piero who would break the deadlock when he knocked in his first of an eventual hat trick. 4 minutes later he would get his second when he got on the end of a Nermin free kick to make it 2-nil. Nermin would get his own hat trick of assists in the 27th minute when he found Chris would slotted home the 3rd goal of the match.
Horizon continued their dominance in the 2nd half and in the 45th minute Piero was on the receiving end of a pass from Mark and buried it to complete his hat trick. Then it was Mark' turn to get on the scoresheet himself, first finishing rebound in the 51st then in true striker style while grinding it out in the box he notched his second in the 56th minute. In between the last 2 goals, Northport would break the clean sheet which made the final scoreline 6-1.
The knockout stage is set to begin next Spring.
Horizon Green Route Islas Malvinas Gold in CJSL Play!
Horizon Green were looking to avenge the only blemish on their otherwise perfect Fall CJSL record, a 3-3 draw at Islas Malvinas back in October. The game was another strong performance for Horizon Green as they took controlled the match and came away with a 6-3 win bringing their record to 6-0-1. Next week they will face Real Buenavista Deportivo Chautia at home.
Horizon White Continue Winning Streak!
Defeat FC Select White 3-2 in Strange Game
Horizon White traveled to Williamsburg to face FC Select White looking to keep their CJSL winning streak alive. Although Edgar would score from a corner kick 2 minutes in, the first half was very balancd. Horizon would get their 2nd goal of the match in the 26th minute when Cesar found the back of the net finishing off a cross from Matt. FC Select made it a match when they scored less than a minute later to make it 2-1 to end the half. The second half was much of the same back and forth with both teams creating chances for themselves. In the 33rd minute Edgar let one rip from just outside the box and buried it to give Horizon a 2 goal lead. FC Select would make the game tight once again when they scored in the 41st minute. Moments later the match would take a bizarre turn when a gentleman on the sideline began screaming at the ref to end the game, yet there was still 15 minutes left to play. The ref would not acknowledge his demands which then lead to the man walking onto the field, again demanding the ref to end the match. Once again, the ref ignored him. At this point most of the spectators and players do not know what is going on. Finally the man tells FC Select to just walk off the field forcing the ref to blow the whistle to signal the end of the match. Now the rules state that if a coach or manager pulls their team off of the field it is an automatic forfeit. Now considering that Horizon was winning anyway it really has no effect on the outcome one way or the other. In the end it was learned that there was some sort of conflict with the permits and that another game was scheduled to start at 10AM.
In the end Horizon picked up the win bringing their record to 4-2. Next week they will play their rivals, Silver Lake Academy Cosmos who are currently undefeated and in first place.
Green Takes Care of Business Against GJOA Red!
Horizon Green continued their hot steak with their 4th straight victory, defeated SC GJOA Red 5-2 in boys U11A CJSL play. It only took 6 minutes for Horizon to put the game away as Chris scored twice and Nermin and Piero one each to make it 4-0 in the opening minutes. Chris completed his hat trick in the 24th minute as they went into the half with a 5-0 lead.
Things cooled down in the 2nd half for Horizon, letting GJOA get 2 goals back but the defense remained strong behind the solid play of Armend and Mike. The 5-2 win brings them to 4-0-1 and alone in 1st place.
Next week they will host Islas Malvinas Gold.
Horizon White Win 2nd Straight!
Horizon White won their 2nd straight match in CJSL play behind 2 goals from Mark to bring them into a massive 5-way tie for 2nd place in the boys U11 C division at 3-2. Eleftheria Pancyprian Spartans fell behind early 2-0 after Paul assisted the 1st score with a long cross placed perfectly inside the box that was driven home by Mark 11 minutes into the match. 7 minutes later Brady made it 2-0 with a well placed shot in the lower left hand corner. The Spartans would get on the board with 5 minutes remaining in the half with a beautiful shot up top in the 7, but Mark would bring the lead to 2 again after burying Brady's rebound in the 27th minute.
The 2nd half was more balanced as both teams had opportunities but Joe stood strong in net to preserve the lead. Cesar received a long ball in the 54th minute that he took for a breakaway and finished the chance to make it a 4-1 final.
Next Saturday they will travel to Bushwick, Brooklyn to face F.C. Select White.
And the Winner is...
The poll has been finalized
and the people have spoken. This will be the new logo design for our t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Horizon Green Stay Undefeated in CJSL Play!
Matchday 4 of the Fall CJSL season brought Brooklyn Patriots F.S.A. Magicos to Miller Field. Horizon needed a win to jump into 1st place as they currently stood at 2-0-1 with 7 points, 2 behind Asphalt Green who had lost earlier in the day. Brooklyn would jump into the lead in the 7th minute but would not hold onto it for long. Only 4 minutes later Danny would tally his first of the game against his former team to tie it up at 1 apiece, and that is how a sloppy first half ended.
The 2nd half was much different as Horizon found their groove. Only a minute in Nermin would bury one in the back of the net to take the lead. The defense was solid on both sides of the pitch holding down the fort and aiding the attack while providing passes and shots from long range (MIKEY!!). In the 46th minute Danny put the nail in the coffin scoring his 2nd of the day to make it 3-1 and that would be all that was needed. The win puts Horizon on top of the U11A division with 10 points (3-0-1). Next week will pit the top 2 teams in the division as Asphalt Green host Horizon Green.
Annihilated! Horizon White Defeat Islas Malvinas Silver 8-1 in CJSL Play!
After a slow start to the Fall season Horizon White seem to have turned the corner with an 8-1 victory over Islas Malvinas Silver in CJSL play. The team got the scoring started early with Cesar finding the back of the net twice in the 1st 4 minutes. In the 8th minute Mark made a beautiful run down the right side of the field before cutting it inside and sliding it across to Brady who finished the 2v1 with the keeper to make it 3-0.
The barrage would continue in the 2nd half as Edgar got on the scoresheet with 2 long high chips over the goalie making it 5-0. Paul buried his first goal with the team in the 34th minute, Cesar completed his hat trick in the 37th and Zivi would get his first as well in the 44th. The team was clicking on all cylinders, the win brings them to 2-2 on the season.
Horizon Green Defeat Albertson SC Barcelona to Stay Alive in NY Cup!
Falling to Brooklyn Italians Roma in their 1st game of the group stage in the Boys U11 NY Cup Gold tournament, Horizon Green needed a win against Albertson SC Barcelona to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage. After edging out Albertson 3-2 a week earlier in the semi-finals of the Columbus Cup, Horizon needed a solid performance in this match. And a solid performance is what they gave. Nermin opened up the scoring with a 5th minute goal after a nice feed from Piero. Piero would get one of his own 10 minutes later to make it 2-0. Nermin ripped one from long range after receiving a pass from Chris making it 3-nil at the half.
The 2nd half started with Albertson breaking the clean sheet 3 minutes in. Then the half would continue back where the first half left off as Nermin returned the favor to Piero in the 42nd minute, assisting on his first goal of the match. Piero knocked one more in for good measure as Sam gave him a nice ball at the top of the box in the 54th minute. The 5-1 final score put Horizon Green in a 4-way tie in Group "A" with Brooklyn, Albertson and Northport Cow Harbor. The 3rd and final match of the group stage will be played on 11/6 when Horizon will host Northport Cow Harbor Celtic.
Horizon Green Take 2nd in Brooklyn Italians X Puma Columbus Cup
In one of the toughest tournaments of the year, Horizon Green would be placed in a group of Deer Park (NY), NY Hota Bavarians S.C. (NY) and Blackwatch RI (RI), making up Group A of the 4 group, 16 team event. After taking care of business in the first round with wins over Deer Park (4-0), NY Hota Bavarians S.C. (4-2) and Blackwatch RI (7-2), Horizon Green advanced to the semi-finals finishing top in their group. Their opponent, Albertson SC Barcelona, would prove to be a handful going up early in the 3rd minute of the match. However, Horizon would fight back pulling back into the lead with 2 goals from Danny and Chris at the 10' and 15' minute marks respectively. Albertson tied up again 9 minutes into the 2nd half and continued to push forward. Horizon's defense stood strong absorbing the attack and with only 3 minutes to go earned a free kick a few yards outside of the box. Nermin stepped up for it and let it rip. The shot found the back and ultimately decided the match as Horizon came out victorious 3-2.
The final would bring on Ironbound SC Azzurri would had previously defeated Jigs Academy 00 in their semi-final match. Once again Horizon went down early on a 7th minute goal and again fought back to tie the match when Piero was sent on a breakaway by Nermin in the 22nd minute, beating the keeper to make it 1-1. The match was tight throughout the 2nd half and looked like regulation time would end in a draw. Just when everyone was set to go to penalty kicks (no overtime) Ironbound would tuck in the winner with 7 seconds remaining. A heartbreaker for Horizon but an excellent tournament overall as they finished 5-1, scored 19 goals and gave up 8 earning 1 clean sheet; all over a 2 day span. With many of the top teams on the East coast competing, finishing 2nd of out 16 is a great accomplishment and the team should be proud.
Horizon Green & White Victorious at Oceanside United Labor Day Tourneys!
Both Horizon teams were winners this weekend at the Oceanside United
18th Annual Bob Schrager Memorial Long Island Cup Labor Day tournament
(long name, huh?), each winning their respective divisions with
Green playing in the Orange bracket opened up the tournament Saturday
morning with an undeserved 2-2 draw against Glen Cove Jr Soccer Club.
Playing a man short throughout the weekend, they took an early lead with
an own goal but Glen Cove would equalize a few minutes later. Several
bad - really bad
- offside calls were made in the next 20 minutes
against Horizon, twice in which goals were called back. Ultimately they
took the lead again when Piero poked in what appeared to be the winner
only to give up another goal late in the match.
Next they faced Sysosset Synergy in another tough match. Horizon went
up early and but gave up two goals, eventually holding on to win 3-2.
On Sunday they started the day 2nd in the standings with 4 points, 2
behind the Port Washington SC Pythons. Their first match was against
the Merrick Enforcers. Horizon went down 1-0 early but fought back to
take a 6-1 victory. In their last match they went up against Port
Washington who was now tied in points, each with 7. The game turned out
to be the best of the weekend with Green winning 1-0 on a goal by Piero
late in the first half. Lucas was in net for the shutout and made
several tremendous saves.
Horizon White came out firing on all cylinders Saturday in the Blue
bracket. Their opening match was against the Port Washington SC
Rockets. Moving the ball well throughout the match, they came away with
a 5-0 victory with Joe preserving the shutout in net.
In game 2 they were even more fired up, lighting up the scoreboard with
the most goals scored in a game for the entire age group and winning 8-3
over Bethpage SC Strikers.
Going into Sunday they were tied atop the bracket with Mineola Empire FC
and Great Neck SC Green Wave, all with 6 points. The first game for
the day was against Mineola. Up 3-0 early on goals by Cesar, Mark and
Edgar, Mineola made it a game getting back within a goal with a few
minutes to play. Ultimately the defense was able to solidify and take
Mineola out of the running.
The 4th and final match was against Great Neck, who had won their 1st
match of the day as well. Both teams tied with 9 points, the winner
would take the championship. Horizon would go up early 2-0 and didn't
look back. The win is their first tournament victory and a great start
for the Fall season.
Best of luck to both teams as the prepare for their Fall season openers in just a few weeks.
