-Chuck Palahniuk-
A little about myself......
I live on a small hobby farm in Langley, BC, surrounded by parkland, pastures and towering cedar, maple and birch trees. I share the land with my now grown children, dear husband, pet chickens, goats, ducks and numerous dogs, cats and birds. And therein lies one of my passions, nature and animals. I consider them to be my dear muses. Inspiration strikes at the oddest hour........ shovelling manure, tending to the greenhouse, swinging in the hammock or chasing a coyote off the property. A "brain fart" usually does come out of left field, so to speak.
My other great passion is of course the arts. I have been sketching and painting ever since I was a little girl growing up in Germany. I gratefully come from a family that encouraged me along every step of the way and did not push me to pursue other options. It also helps that I come from a very artistically inclined lineage, both musically and visually.
I hold two diplomas, one in the Fine Arts and one in Graphic Design. Working as an Art Director helped to pay the bills while I continued to hone in my skills as a visual artist.
While I learned a lot during my college years the learning never stops. Even today I am immersed almost daily behind the computer screen, reading about various artist, past and present, dissecting their techniques, noting down helpful tips and advice they offer and then scurrying off into a corner experimenting and doodling. The right brain never stops.
My world is seen in shapes, patterns, textures and colours. I don't just see a tree, I see the way the light highlights every groove and ridge of its trunk and the shadows that are left behind, the way the leaves form different patterns of colours and lines, the way the branches reach upwards, intertwining into one another, and then slowly everything transforms into a beautiful abstract right before my eyes. I appreciate every small detail nature has to offer and absorb even the most minuscule detail which I may later strip down to the most basic form. This is what I love about painting. I can take one of my photos and then keep stripping it down until I am left with a piece that may only represent the raw feeling that I had after seeing the original scenery in real life.
I hope this gives you a little insight into my art and my life. I feel blessed to follow my passions in life and to live a simpler life. May you find your passion in life and find daily gratitude in all you do.
My "recharge the battery" spots on our property. OM!
