Silas L. Fong has been with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., New Jersey, since August 2019. His research interests include information theory and its applications to practical communication systems such as relay networks, wireless networks, and energy-harvesting channels.

He received the B.Eng., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2005, 2007 and 2011 respectively, where Raymond Yeung was his M.Phil. and Ph.D. advisor. From 2011 to 2013, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Department of Electronic Engineering at City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Ping Li and Chi Wan Sung. From 2013 to 2014, he was a Postdoctoral Associate with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University under the supervision of Salman Avestimehr. From 2014 to 2017, he was a Research Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at National University of Singapore (NUS) under the supervision of Vincent Tan. From 2017 to 2019, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Toronto under the supervision of Ashish Khisti and Baochun Li.
