AARE SIG: Technology and Learning

Welcome to the Technology and Learning SIG! We're glad you found us.

Every AARE conference incorporates Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings and networking events to encourage SIG members to connect and promote their field of education and research. In this SIG we welcome education researchers who use qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods in both small and large scale technology-focused studies. As a member, you can connect and interact with other researchers to exchange ideas, knowledge and form research partnerships.

At the 2016 conference, six people attended the SIG: Technology and Learning meeting to discuss ideas on how to make our SIG group more interactive and meaningful to members. The group decided an initial starting point would be to create a community of practice (CoP) so that educators/researchers interested in the field of technology and learning could connect and exchange information and ideas for future AARE conferences.

Our aim is to promote the SIG to anyone working or interested in researching in the field of technology and learning and grow a vibrant community for future AARE conferences. Let's support each other and have fun in the process. Membership is free!  To join, just complete the Membership request form on the Contact Us page.

Technology and Learning SIG

The AARE SIG: Learning and Technology was established to create an active community of researchers who conduct and/or are interested in technology and how it enhances and changes learning in education contexts.

The SIG aims to:

  • Build a network of researchers who are interested in technology integration in education,
  • Pursue opportunities for advancing analysis of technology and learning and its place in education in broad terms,
  • Encourage and support postgraduates and early career researchers in various fields of technology and learning research in education, and
  • Provide a basis for debate and discussion of technology and learning in education at AARE conferences.

There is a regular technology and learning SIG newsletter as well as paper, poster, symposia and workshop opportunities at the AARE annual conference. Our focus is broad but includes new and emerging technology and how it underpins learning in schools and higher education contexts, education policy, workplaces and teacher professional learning.
