The monetary awards we present to the women described below
are made possible by this fundraiser, in addition to our other programs.
You can help make a difference!
We offer 3 awards each year to honor the work of local women.
These are the "signature" awards for a Soroptimist club.
SICYS presented awards to 3 local women on March 22, 2013.
Our guest speaker was
Amanda Barger, RN
2008-09 Women's Opportunity Award
The Violet Richardson Award honors a young woman (ages 14 - 17) for her
volunteer efforts to make a difference in the lives of women and girls.
This year we will present the Violet Richardson award to Sarah Jensen,
a student at Prescott High School, a member of the PHS S Club, and a volunteer
with Children's Peace Project.
The Women's Opportunity Award honors a woman who
* has the main financial responsibility for herself and her dependents,
* is attending or has been accepted to college or a vocational skills program
* is making a difference in her future and that of her family through education.
Our Women's Opportunity Award for 2012-13 goes to Alyssa Leigh, a student at
Yavapai College, a single parent and working toward her education degree.
The Ruby Award honors a woman who has improved the lives of women and girls
through her professional or personal life within the past 2 years, making extra-ordinary
differences in the lives of other women.
This year's Ruby Award is presented to Kari Hull, the founder of the Children's Peace
Project, a not-for-profit based in Prescott and working with women in Haiti and Africa
to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
SICYS sponsors 2 S Clubs, service clubs to provide opportunities for high school girls
to develop leadership skills, to serve their community, and to make a difference in their
lives and the lives of other girls.
Our 2 S Clubs are:
Bradshaw Mountain High School in Humboldt Unified School District,
Prescott Valley, Arizona; and
Prescott High School, Prescott Unified District, Prescott, Arizona.
Both S Clubs mentor middle school girls in addition to other school and community activities.
