Proposed Revisions to 21stCLEs

Based on feedback from faculty and department meetings in May and June 2011, revisions to the Spaulding High School "Core Values, Beliefs, and Learning Expectations" are attached below.  Feedback is welcome.

2 and 5 Year Plans

Following discussion on Feb 3, a first draft of the 2 and 5 Year plans has been prepared and is attached below for comment.

Spaulding High School, Barre, Vermont

Two Year Targeted Areas

  • Evaluate the formal TA program through which each student has an adult in the school who knows the student well and assists the student in achieving the school’s 21st Century learning expectations.
  • Complete development and implementation of school-wide rubrics connected to the school’s 21 Century learning expectations
  • Provide release time and professional development to assist teachers in implementing and using school-wide rubrics
  • Develop a long range plan for the allocation of resources and personnel in anticipation of demographic changes
  • Complete articulation of 9-12 curriculum, and continue K-12 alignment
  • Adopt power standards for each curriculum area
  • Develop local assessments in anticipation of Common Core requirements in 2014
  • Provide advanced training to faculty in the teaching of literacy
  • Improve access to electronic communication, including wireless access and student e-mail accounts

Five Year Targeted Areas

  • Review and evaluate need for revision of school-wide rubrics
  • Re-evaluate the formal TA program
  • Adopt common course curriculum units and corresponding common assessments
  • Complete development and implementation of local assessments of 21st Century Learning Expectations where appropriate
  • Evaluate college and career readiness for all students
  • Use student data to influence curriculum, instruction, and assessment
