Shirley on Artbeat

Oregon Public Broadcasting Television's Art Beat- Shirley Nanette

is doing a story on Shirley Nanette. As it becomes available you can find out here. They have been working on a story about Shirley's career and it was sparked by the recording of her new CD and DVD, Starting Here, Starting Now at Jimmy Maks. Art Beat crews joined Shirley at Augustana Lutheran Church, the recording and release parties for SHSN, and a recent performance in Bend with their Symphony.

Well we, the audience and singer Shirley Nanette, and drummer Mel Brown, and bassist Ed Bennett and Pianist Tony Pacini and OPB'sOregon Art Beat had very good night indeed at Jimmy Maks in Portland.

The creative juices were flowing and the music reflected some original work this night. Many songs and so little tape. We can all look forward to the story that will air on "Oregon Art Beat" in the coming months. There was a duet with Tony Pacini and one with Ed Bennett in which Shirley works without a microphone while some adjustments are being made. It would be remarkable for the sheer force of singing strength alone, but it is also creative work by Shirley and Ed.

Oregon Art Beat videographers were capturing the action and this recording will comprise a component in the segment to be broadcast on the program in future months. They also visited a performance at AugustanaLutheran Church.

Here's a list of what came from the show on November 26, 2008:
