Since 1997 UCM students have devoted a week, that has traditionally been reserved to partying, to performing community service. Visiting UMCOR Sager Brown in Balwin, LA for a week, gives students the opportunities to repair and paint homes of the less fortionate, volunteer at local schools, work with the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Bayou Teche area, and assist with the distribution of disaster relief items around the world.
Students have the opportunity to visit the French Quarter on the last day of the trip and taste beignets at Cafe Du Mont and the amazing gumbo at The Gumbo Shop! The devistation of Katrina to this area has only driven to passion to assist the people in his area.
Speak to Rev. Jan if you are interested in the trip. We leave the Friday before Spring Break and return a few days before classes start.
United Campus Ministry (UCM) at Shippensburg University is planning our mission trip over Spring Break (March 9 – 17 2012) to Baldwin, Louisiana. This is a wonderful opportunity to put your faith into action, and to grow spiritually and personally as we work together to help others in significant need. I am excited about the possibilities.
The cost to the student is $315 for the trip. It is so low because we have received local support in Shippensburg for this project. It covers all travel food and admission costs for the week. Bring spending money.
We will drive straight through to LA in vans, play on the beach, eat Cajun food and dance, work hard, hand have an extraordinary week together. We’ll also visit New Orleans. There are 16 places available. Let me know asap if you want to reserve a spot!
