New Reverend, New Year

Friends,
Happy Holidays!  Earlier this year we began an exciting collaboration with Henjyoji Shingon temple in Portland.  I am pleased to announce that the temple's Board of directors has asked me to serve and help continue the temple's mission which has been in operation since the 1930's, and at the current location since the 1940's.  In the coming months we will transition our activities from Beaverton, to Portland.  The first step in this effort will be the Year End and New Year's Day service.

Year End Service, Toshi-no-se.  Brief service and ringing of the bell 108 times to symbolically overcome the 108 obstacles to enlightenment and remove our negative karma of the prior year.  While traditionally this service is done near midnight, we will celebrate a bit earlier in the evening so everyone can get home safely.

New Year's Day Service; Shusho-e; praying for the peace and harmony of the nation and our lives in the New Year.  Service followed by light refreshments, fellowship, and give people the opportunity to come visit the temple on New Year's Day.

Please join us for these services, and thank you all for your support of the teaching over the years as we've moved locations.

With respect,
