Greetings!

One of longest chapters of Saga Goyru Ikebana, Portland’s branch of Saga Goryu is celebrating its 75th anniversary, with a special Ikebana exhibition at Buddhist Henjyoji Temple, 2634 SE 12th Ave, Portland OR, 11/7-8/2015, from 10am-4pm.

The ikebana demonstration will be performed by Etsuho Kakihana November 7, 11:00-11:30. We are honored to have Kakihana Etsuho, of Saga Goryu, Daikaku-ji in Kyoto, who has demonstrated Saga Goryu Ikebana, widely, in Japan and abroad.

Her mentor, Hasegawa, Kikushu, visited Portland, in 1968, as part of a U.S. tour,
titled "Visiting Ikebana Masters. Kakihana Sensei first visited Portland, five years ago, so we are especially pleased to welcome her back. Accompanying her on this visit are Shima Mitsuko, Kamimura Kazuko, Horii Setsuko and Umezu Michiko who are Haken Koshi or representatives of the School dispatched to workshops and demonstrations.

Featuring local potters the late Yoshiro Ikeda, Ken Pincus, Motoko Hori, Chris Baskin, and Jan Rentenaar.

Yuu Kou 融光、(infusing light) is this year’s theme, derived from the names of the late Bishop Daiyu Henjyoji and Hoin Wakou Henjyoji, who started the chapter in 1940.
