Accomplishments

Past PTC acomplishments by school year at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School. These are what your fund raising efforts have provided.

 2011/2012

  • May 2012
    • Approved the goal to purchase a Tablet Lab of 35 - 37 tablet computers within the next year, earmarking remaining funds from the 2011/12 and 2012/13 school years for this purpose (approximately $10,000) and approving this as the Annual Focus for the 2013/14 school year with the goal of purchasing the tablets once the infrastructure is set up through the District.
  • April 2012
    • Provided $2500 to support a teaching garden being planted at the school.  This garden will provide a learning experience for all students on how to plant, grown and cultivate various fruits, vegetables and flowers.
    • Purchased approximately 50 books with a dog theme in honor of Mrs. Jill Fox, a Literacy teacher at the school who is retiring after 30+ years of teaching, 21 of which were at Sleepy Hollow.  These books support her love of reading and dogs as well as support the PTC's and school's efforts to improve the Media Center and reach "Above Standard" national status
    • Raised additional money through the Spring Book Fair to use toward Media Center and Guided Reading purchases, again supporting the efforts to reach "Above Standard" national status.
    • Purchased $600 in additional equipment for Field Day and P.E. class daily use.
    • January 2012
    • Successfully transitioned to "green" communications with the roll-out of a weekly eLedger email communication, improving the timeliness and consistency of communications while eliminating costs and waste.
    • December 2011
    • Purchased 2 specialty reading tables for the classrooms
    • Approved $5000 in new books purchases for the Media Center, improving the SHES Media Center from "Below Standard" classification to within standards for an elementary school, with an ultimate goal of reaching "Above Standard" status.
    • Purchased parts to repair broken playground equipment not covered by the District
  • September 2011
    • Raised over $26,000 during our second "No Marathon" Marathon fundraising event. Worked with the students to attempt to break a Guinness Book World record on having the most people stand simultaneously from the ground with linked arms
    • Held Sleepy Hollow Elementary's second Back to School picnic, this year with a carnival-theme
  • August 2011

    • Purchased a subscription to Brain Pop and Brain Pop Junior for use by all the school's classrooms
    • Worked with a DMS Girl Scout Troop to beautify several gardens in the front and side of the school
    • Hired a new Creative Arts instructor to provide Creative Arts training and education to SHES students throughout the year
  • 2010/2011

    • Summer 2011
      • Worked with an Eagle Scout candidate to clean-up and beautify the school's Teaching Prairie
      • Purchased a Traversing Wall for the gymnasium to be incorporated into the PE curriculum
      • Provided an additional $2000 in guided reading books for the Literacy Library
    • May 2011
      • Beautified the front walk of the school by adding annual and perennial plants
      • Purchased Speed Stack cups for the PE curriculum using Campbell's Label program points 
    • April 2011 - Purchased a new Accucut system including a full set of new letters and numbers for teacher and volunteer use
    • March 2011 - Rented a rock climbing wall for a week during PE class, but covered the costs of the rental as part of the Fun Fair event
    • February 2011 - Provided over $3500 in new guided reading books for the Literacy Library from Book Fair proceeds
    • November 2010 - Obtained a donated upright piano and piano cart for the Music program
    • October 2010 - Raised over $20,000 during our first "No Marathon" Marathon fundraising event
    • September 2010 - Held Sleepy Hollow Elementary's first Back to School picnic event with entertainment by AcRock musical group

    2009/2010

    • March 2010 - Rented a rock climbing wall for a week during PE 
    • January 2010 - Purchased Orff instruments for Music classroom
    • November 2009 - Purchased new laminator for the school
    • October 2009 - Approved $5,000 toward the purchase of new library books

    2008/2009

    • February 2009 - Delivered over 700 books to classrooms for leveled reading
    • November 2008 - Purchased 4 Smart Boards on wheels
    • September 2008 - Purchased playground ball packs for each classroom

    2007/2008

    • 5th grade gift - Welcome display TV
