Gua Sha

One of my favourite treatments for sore shoulders and neck muscles. Gua Sha is an excellent way to relieve tension and stress. 'Gua' means friction or to rub. 'Sha' is the term used to describe congestion of blood at the surface of the body. When friction is applied in repeated even strokes, the 'sha' surfaces as small red petechiae, or multiple blood-red coloured pinhead sized areas on your skin that can remain for a few days. The patient experiences immediate changes in stiffness, pain and mobility in the affected muscles. Patients also report they feel quite relaxed and de-stressed after this treatment. I even have some patients come in requesting that 'treatment you do with the oil and spoon.'
