Sheffield Latin and Ballroom Society

We teach Ballroom and Latin American Dancing to students at both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University (although we are a university society we're also open to ex-students).  We are a friendly society that welcome people of all abilities it doesn't matter if you've never danced before or you've been addicted for years. We hold classes twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) and additional free practise space on another 3 days where you can just go through your routines or have a private class with our lovely professional teachers.  See the lessons tab for info on class times and venues.

Each February, we host the Sheffield Social dance competition. This is the largest dance competition of the year, other than the nationals. It is usual held in the Octagon Centre on the main Sheffield University campus. It's lovely to dance in your own town where friends and family can come to watch, or if you don't want to compete then its great just to watch the advance levels float and strut across the floor in their beautiful dresses and suits.

We also attend the national IVDA competition held in the magnificent ballroom at Blackpool Winter Gardens which is the highlight of many peoples year. They hold competitions for every level of dancer from beginner to advanced. It is a fun filled weekend, rounded off by a night out in Blackpool town!

During the year, the Society also provides demonstrations at functions such as balls and public events, and private teaching sessions for student groups that need to learn a dance routine for any reason. If you would like us to come to your event please contact us.

We love to meet new members so please 'like' us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, check out the videos on our Youtube channel, and if you would like to join us and receive our newsletter please contact our secretary. (Dancing.soc@sheffield.ac.uk)
