Sheboygan Celiac Support Group March 2010 Newsletter

Due to the inability of our using the basement meeting room this month for our pizza party, please bring your pizzas already baked & sliced with info on the crust (did you make it? please bring copies of the recipe, buy the pizza already made, or is the crust pre-made with your toppings?).  St Mark’s has graciously allowed us to use their meeting rooms without charge & at times we need to accommodate them.

 Udi’s bread can now be found at New Life Health Store, on 8th & Michigan in Sheboygan,  PigglyWiggly, located at the south side location, & check the Piggly Wiggly in Plymouth.

 Piggly Wiggly in Howards Grove is considering carrying gluten free items, we need to continue requesting the stores where we shop to carry GF items. Woodlake Market in Kohler is now carrying their GF items in one section to make it easier for us to shop. 

 Wood lake Market  is also hosting our April 20th meeting starting at 6:30 (½ hr earlier) till 8 p.m. There will be samples offered by the manufacturers whose products are being sold there at Woodlake.  Laurie Turner from Woodlake has worked hard to put this all together for our April meeting - a big Thank You to her.

 Andi Beschta has started a CDF Connections Support Group in Manitowoc, the meetings will be the 1st Tuesday of every month starting at 6 p.m. at Festival Foods in Manitowoc. The Manitowoc Herald Times ran an article about Andi & her support group in their Feb 22nd issue. Andi will try to still attend some of our meetings & I encourage anyone who can to attend her meetings, while there you can do your shopping at Festival’s at the same time!

 LaVonne & Sean Young have put together a face page for our support group -thank you, thank you, thank you.....and they have also created a free website for our group. If you have an e-mail address then LaVonne has issued you an invite, if you did not receive one, please let me know so that you can have access to the website & face page. Please feel free to add info to either website or let me know what you would like to have on these sites.

 Remember that each of us has to be our own advocate for our needs whether it’s medical, nutrition, the GF foods that we purchase, or emotional (sometimes we can feel isolated) - the group can help with friendship, where to buy the food, what products are better than others, what restaurants are more friendly to Celiacs etc - BUT we do not give medical advice on health issues - you need to talk to your health care providers.  We can tell you what Dr’s we go to, our own personal experiences, etc. We offer SUPPORT!!

 Our newsletter is being sent to dieticians who are located at St Nick’s Hospital , Memorial Hospital, Sheboygan Clinic.  The newsletters are also being sent to Dr. Rana Sokhi (gastro), Dr. David Haller (gastro), Dr. Derse (GP), Dr. Patrick Marsho, Dr. Stillwell. Please send me any Dr’s names & addresses who you would like to receive the newsletter or a dietician who you are seeing & I will make sure that they also receive brochures from Celiac Disease Foundation,  papers that show our favorite restaurants, stores where GF items are sold, & other info.  See you March 16th  at the Pizza Party.

Joleen Delker, CMT is offering to test members using live blood analysis at our March meeting to see if they have leaky gut , candida etc. This test normally is $50.00 but if you schedule to have it done at the meeting it will be $40.00.
