Shari Vassello is a 49 year old woman with an inherited kidney disease called Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). PKD is a genetic disease in which cysts, or fluid-filled pouches, are found primarily in the kidney. The cysts vary in size and, as they accumulate more fluid, they can grow very large. A normal kidney is about the size of a fist; a polycystic kidney can get as large as a football and weigh about 20 pounds! There is no cure for PKD - only dialysis or transplant.
Shari is married to Doug and the mom of 2 teens: Sarah & Nick. The family loves to spend time together watching movies, playing with their 2 Bichon Frise dogs Sophie and Chipper, and traveling. The Vassello family particularly enjoys spending time in the NC mountains, visiting our friend's beach house in Topsail NC, exploring museums and seeing new places.
Shari works as a children's librarian, part time, at a local library. She very much enjoys the time spent with the young children at the library and the joy in their faces during story time programs. Shari likes to read, watch the HGTV network and movies, and spends way too much time playing Farmville on Facebook :)
