Middle School Initiative

DCPS current has a combination of Middle grades in K-8 programs and middle schools.  The recommendations from the Advisory Group on Student Assignment proposed 4 new middle schools to feed into Cardozo, Roosevelt, Coolidge and Woodson High Schools.  This change will require the conversion of the K-8 schools to elementary schools. It will also require moving the current 6-8 out of Cardozo and into a new middle school - currently budgeted as Shaw.  The proposal will also require a significant capital investment.  We will post the progress on this initiative on this page.

MacFarland Middle School is  in the FY17 Capital Budget and will open a dual language program in the fall of 2016. The school is to be modernized with a full opening in the fall of 2018.

DCPS has now decided that Ron Brown is the Site for the Ron Brown College Preparatory High School.  Below is the letter from the DC Auditor expressing concerns about the way the RFP was issued for the process, the tight timeline etc.
A feasibility study is being done for Coolidge looking at the possibility of a middle school being part of that project.
