May 2, 2017 Bond Issue and Permanent Levy Updates

On May 2, 2017 the Shaker Heights School District residents will vote on a 3.75 mill bond issue which includes a permanant improvement levy to raise $30 million for the District’s most urgent and critical capital needs. The bond issue will address: 
  • extensive repairs and maintenance, including roofs, heating systems and making our schools ADA compliant
  • upgrades to the District’s electrical and technological infrastructure so our students and teachers have up-to-date information technology
  • upgrades for health and safety concerns

Bond Levy Update 03-02-2017

There Are Two Parts to the May 2, 2017 Levy

A bond issue totaling $30 million or 2.5 mills

  • Addresses the immediate and urgent needs over the next few years for boilers, roofs, technology, ADA, and similar repairs

A permanent improvement levy of 1.25 mills

  • Provides $1.0 million per year allowing the District to plan for capital improvements and repairs

  • Significantly reduces the need to ask Shaker voters for more capital funds

In total, the 3.75 mills increases taxes $11 per month per $100,000 in home property value.

The Committee for Shaker Schools is the campaign organization that works to support Shaker Heights School District and assist in passing district levies. It’s a grassroots, citizen-based organization. Our primary mission is to inform voters about upcoming school levies and to direct efforts toward ensuring their passage.
