Saskia Haegens, PhD

Saskia Haegens was born in 1984 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Saskia obtained a BSc degree in Human Movement Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, followed by an MSc degree in Cognitive Neuroscience with cum laude honours at the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. In addition, Saskia obtained a BSc degree in Political Science, and an Honours Degree. 

In 2007 Saskia started as a PhD student in Dr. Ole Jensen’s Neuronal Oscillations group at the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging in Nijmegen. Part of the research was done in collaboration with Dr. Ranulfo Romo in Mexico City. Saskia obtained a PhD degree with cum laude honours upon successfully defending their thesis entitled "On the functional role of oscillatory neuronal activity in the somatosensory system".

Saskia then received an NWO Rubicon grant and started in 2012 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Dept. of Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, with Dr. Charles Schroeder. Currently, Saskia is an Associate Research Scientist in the Dept. of Neurosurgery at CUMC, and a Visiting Scholar in the lab of Dr. David Poeppel at the NYU Center for Neural Science. Saskia is funded by an NWO VENI grant based at the Donders Centre in Nijmegen.
