         study for the Introductory Exam together (April & October)

Guidelines to Receive the Gohonzon for New Members 

1. Attended three in-person discussion meetings or; two in-person discussion meetings and one in-person

 four-divisional meeting 

2. Three months of practice 

3. Has shared an experience at any four-divisional meeting. 

4. Wants to practice Soka Gakkai Nichiren Buddhism, chants Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and is learning gongyo. 

5.  Belongs to a local SGI-USA district. 

6.  Receive positive responses to the following: 

         a. Does your living space provide enough privacy and room for you to enshrine the Gohonzon? 

         b. Does everyone you live with support your practice? 

         c. Will you enshrine the Gohonzon within one week of receiving it? 

         d. Do you agree to have SGI-USA leaders come to your home to enshrine your Gohonzon

              and to visit you regularly to support you in faith? 

7.  Subscribes to SGI-USA publications 

8.  All new members should complete the Gohonzon application and submit the appropriate payment of either $20 for just the Gohonzon processing fee (if they are already subscribing to SGI-USA publications), or $60 for both the Gohonzon processing fee and the $40 one-year subscription to the World Tribune/Living Buddhism. 

9.  Non-U.S. residents wishing to receive the Gohonzon, including SGI member from other countries, must: 

a. Have lived in the United States for at least six months prior to conferral; and 

b. Have plans to live in the United States for at least six months after the Gohonzon conferral.

• November 2024-February 2025 - The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life

• Introductory Exam - April and October (every year)

• Intermediate Exam held every December

• Advanced Exam - December 2026, 2028.....  every other year

• Ikeda Wisdom Academy Exam (Youth Leaders) -January/February 2027 (every 2 years)

The Rhythm of the Seven Bells (each series has 7 seven year periods = 49 years)

1st Series:    1930-1979 Establishment of the Soka Gakkai.

1930–37: Founding of the Soka Gakkai with the publication of The System of Value-Creating Education by 

                  Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Josei Toda

1937–44: Full-fledged launch of the Soka Kyoiku Gakkai and the passing of President Makiguchi in prison

1944–51: Inauguration of second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda

1951–58: Realization of President Toda’s lifetime goal of 750,000 member households

1958–65: Inauguration of Ikeda Sensei as third president, the realization of 3 million member households and 

                   the beginning of The Human Revolution

1965–72: Realization of 7.5 million member households and establishment of Soka University

1972–79: Solidification of kosen-rufu in Japan and the full-fledged global spread of Nichiren Buddhism with 

                   the founding of the Soka Gakkai International

2nd Series: 2001-2050 Laying the Foundation for Peace in Asia and the World.

2001–08: Introduction of the Soka Gakkai’s Five Eternal Guidelines

2008–15: Completion of the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu

2015–22: Completion of The New Human Revolution

2022–29: 10th Anniversary of the Hall of the Great Vow’s Completion

2029–36: Soka Gakkai’s Centennial

2036–43: Soka Gakkai’s 110th Anniversary

                       2043–50: Soka Gakkai’s 120th Anniversary 

3rd Series:  2051-2100 Philosophy of Respect for the Dignity of

                                          Life established as the Spirit of the Age

                                          and the World.

4th Series:  2101-2150 Secure an Indestructible Foundation

                                          for Lasting Peace throughout

                                          the World,

5th Series:  2151-2200 The Brilliant Flowering of Humanistic

                                          Culture.

6th Series:  2253-2302 Celebrating the Millennial of the

                                          Establishment of Nichiren Daishonin's
