The Heritage

Governor Gregory's House

A beautiful building in the grand style, located opposite the entrance to Nuwara Eliya's well attended race course.

In the 1940's, Governor Gregory was resident here and was a keen fisherman at 'Lake Gregory'. After passing through the hands of Ceylon bank, The Heritage is now in the hands of a Colombo hotelier who has restored it to its former glory.

Imposing staircases and Victorian fireplaces draw your attention whilst the colonial, teak furniture will attract many admiring glances.

Tradition remains a part of the hotel culture with a gentleman's billiard room and bar, and dining room  with separate areas for smokers and non-smokers.

The staff are extremely friendly and the pretty floral gardens are managed to perfection. There is a mixture of accomodation styles as the new wing has provided for more modern and budget tastes, whilst the heart of the building retains its colonial dignity with rooms steeped in history.

Golf, fishing, tea and relaxing are the main past times of Nuwara Eliya, but the English may find it a little too sleepy.
