Holy Cross Hospital Takes First Step Toward Baby-Friendly Designation

posted Aug 8, 2011, 7:47 AM by kelly kratzert
Today is the start of World Breastfeeding week and Holy Cross Hospital has registered for the first phase toward achieving Baby-Friendly Hospital designation, making Holy Cross the first in the city to step up to the plate. Only two hospitals in the state of Illinois are certified as Baby-Friendly Hospitals, but hopefully more will follow suit. Promoting the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a goal of Healthy Places (www.clocc.net/partners/healthyplaces/index.html), a joint partnership between CLOCC and the Chicago Department of Public Health. According to Healthy Places, breastfed infants are 22% less likely to be obese or overweight as children; and studies suggest that this protection lasts until adolescence and adulthood. Attached below is a link to the PDF version of the press release from Healthy Places and includes more infomration on the benefits of a Baby-Friendly Hospital.
