One of the things about the Book of Jude that needs to be mentioned is a "spiritual" or hidden theme in the bible, that has to do with marriage, wife and adultery.
First lets develop an example of the situation:
Human Being = Flesh + Spirit
Human Spirit + God's Spirit = Marriage
Back in the Old Testament side, they used the
word "wisdom" for Holy Spirit; because it imparts wisdom, as
at the day of Pentecost in the upper room, Peter said "now I
understand, this is what the prophet Joel was talking about, The
Day Of The Lord, in the last days of it, this would happen. I will pour out My Spirit on all people, and you will
prophesy, have visions and dreams."
The book of Proverbs refers to Wisdom as a
woman......"Wisdom calls aloud in the street, SHE raises HER
voice in the public square, at the head of the noisy street SHE
cries out, in the gateways of the city SHE makes HER speech:"
...Proverbs 1:20
Proverbs 4:5 then encourages you to "get wisdom". (get her)
Human Spirit + Wisdom (woman) = marriage
Wisdom, therefore is symbolically like "your wife";
that which you have joined yourself to.
Those that have wisdom "put away perversity from
their mouth, and keep corrupt talk far from their lips"...4:24
Then comes chapter 5, warning that you had better "pay attention, discipline, discretion, to preserve wisdom"...1, 2.
Because you could lose Wisdom or HS, and acquire an "evil spirit"
instead.
So now, the Human Spirit leaves Wisdom or wife and marries the evil spirit, this is the adulterer. 5:3 "For the lips of an adulterer" tell us which spirit is inside.
In the story of Jesus' baptism, after
the HS is witnessed by John as coming down upon him as a
dove and remain, John says "a man can only receive what is
given him from heaven. The BRIDE (Holy Spirit) belongs to
the Bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, waits and listens
for his voice or THE WORD(s)."...John 3:27-29. Because the HS
imparts wisdom and then they can tell others the WORD(s).
With these key meanings, it is easier to unlock the scriptural intent; 1 Corinthians 6:13-19..."The human body (spirit) is
not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord (HS). Do you
not know that your bodies (spirit) are members of Christ (HS).
Shall I take the members of Christ and unite them with a
prostitute (evil spirit)? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself
with a prostitute is one with her in(side the) body. He who unites himself with the Lord (HS) is one (married) with God in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. (your spirit and an evil spirit) All other sins a man commits outside his human body, but sinning sexually is done
inside the body. Do you not know that your body is a temple for
the Holy Spirit, she is in you, whom you received from God."
The same as in the Old Testament,
Malachi 2:13-16..."You flood the Lord's alter with tears. You
weep and wail because God no longer pays attention to your
offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.
(people are coming to God "religiously" at the house of worship
and God is not happy with them, so God tries to explain something "spiritually") You ask 'Why?' It is because the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth (HS), because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. Has not the Lord made them one? And why one? Because God is seeking children (fruit). So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth (HS). 'I hate divorce,' says the Lord, 'and I hate a man covering his wife (HS) with uncleanness.' So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith."
An example of this kind of metaphorical language would be if I tell someone "Fuck You", it doesn't mean I want to have sex with them. The Book of Jude is talking about religious people whose human spirit has married (enticed by) an evil spirit; we know that by their words and actions, and that complicated process is simply called by the phrase "sexual immorality".
Jude 4 "There are some (religious) people, who change the kindness of God into a license for (sexual) immorality and (consequently) deny
(the Holy Spirit sent by) Jesus." 7 "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah gave themselves up to sexual immorality." Some of the things we can tell about them are:
"secretly in among you, eating with you at your love feasts, without worry (1 Corinthians 5)" "reject authority" "slander holy people" "they speak abusively against whatever they don't understand" "violent the way Cain was" "concerned more about money than doing what is right like the prophet Balaam"
"Shepherds who feed only themselves" "wild waves of the sea"
"foaming at the mouth their shame" "harsh words" "grumblers
and faultfinders" "following evil desires" "boast and exalt themselves"
20 "Dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith,
and pray in the Holy Spirit." 21 "Keep yourselves in God's Love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to
eternal life."
