Seva Yoga Studio opened in 2008 to serve the community of Port Jefferson.  Our humble beginning started with the intention to offer an accessible form of Hatha yoga for all individuals seeking relaxation and gentle exercise designed to counter the effects of today's busy lifestyles. Our students find that the small class size and supportive environment provides a safe and personal experience. Our five instructors, Kimberly Dick, Karen Scher and JoAnn Layford, Jan Michelle and Julie Watterson all share the same passion for offering their supportive practices designed to nurture body, mind and spirit.

Founder and Owner Kimberly Dick discovered her love of yoga after exploring many interests related to healthy living and fitness. With a background in dance and gymnastics, yoga was a natural transition blending movement with a lifestyle dedicated to well-being.  Her desire to share yoga's benefits and offer classes that are truly accessible to everyone led her to open Seva Yoga Studio.  She teaches a Kripalu-style class emphasizing breath work, classic yoga asana and the restorative and meditative qualities of yoga. Kimberly continues to pursue advanced training to share with her growing yoga community.

Karen Scher teaches classes inspired by both Anusara and Kripalu traditions.  Her relaxed style encourages her students to "unwind, unfold and let the beauty of yoga work its magic on our bodies and souls."

JoAnn Layford, Ed D, RYT 500 AADP, CHC, CFSP is a certified 500-hour Yoga Instructor, Health Coach and Food & Spirit Practitioner, whose yoga classes and life- style services help people with chronic conditions and “ women of a certain age” clear their minds, change their bodies, and claim their lives as they age with grace. Her 35-year yoga practice has sustained her through life’s peaks and valleys, and her soothing Kripalu-style and Yin yoga classes emphasize yoga’s gentle, sustainable healing for people of all ages and physical conditions.  She has completed 100  hours of Yin Yoga Teacher Training, and  has had the honor of studying with outstanding  yoga teachers on Long Island, at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, The New York Open Center, and Omega Institute .From her yoga mat, offices, and classrooms in schools, universities, and cyberspace for 40 years, JoAnn has had the pleasure of teaching and learning from students of all ages.

Jan Michelle is a Holistic Wellness Educator who combines her background as a Certified Holistic Health Coach, Personal/Group Fitness Trainer, and Thai Yoga & Reiki practitioner, with her experience in Pre-K through adult education, to provide a comprehensive program for her clients. A graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Thai Yoga Center and member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, Jan uses a natural approach, intensely focusing on each student as a whole being. She works primarily with individuals with digestive disorders, those needing stress management and relief, and those who want to significantly improve their overall wellness.

Julie Watterson has been practicing yoga for 15 years.  She came to love Yin Yoga after a back injury left her unable to participate in other fitness activities. Through a regular practice of Yin, she is able to keep up with her spunky 10 year old daughter! She is grateful to share this healing practice with students of all levels. Julie is also very active in community service and currently serves as Distinguished President of the Kiwanis Club of Three Village-Brookhaven Township.

Private yoga instruction can be arranged for those seeking one-on-one sessions.  Many new students find this to be a more relaxed way to familiarize and acclimate them to regular classes.
