The new size is 2.25 times the old map's size!
The dynmap for the overworld is currently disabled to make exploration just a bit more rewarding. It will be reactivated in time.

Introducing The Outlands!

posted Jun 16, 2013, 3:13 AM by John Paul Vella   [ updated Jun 16, 2013, 3:16 AM ]

This is our new PVP map in the shape of Africa with a twist, made primarily by Bluedude. Many resources (including coal, iron, diamonds, redstone, and more) are not found naturally, and thus severely limited primarily available through trading with villagers at spawn with glowstone. Glowstone is available from killing strange monsters that spawn around four villages spread out throughout the map at night, excluding the spawn town. You can enter The Outlands from spawn.

Since this map has a scarcity of resources, the rules are a little different than the last few PvP maps we've had.
 1. Player houses are off limits! This primarily means do not destroy them! (The accepted rule is the only thing you can do is press buttons/levers/pressure plates/etc and interact with storage units)
 2. One house per player! If it has your bed (permanently), it is your house! You can build as many shanties and lean-tos as necessary to make it across the Outlands, but the number one rule will not apply. Be courteous and put up a sign.
 3. Just because the house itself is off limits doesn't mean the contents are! Hide your shit and hide it well!
 4. Do not sail across the ocean! Stick to the mainland!
 5. Murder mercilessly! Warning! In order to enter the Outlands, you will go through a teleport similar to the one we have to Frostheim. However, when you go over this teleport your inventory will be wiped permanently, so store your things before embarking! There will several reminders at the site before you can get to the teleport. If you lose your things, they will not be replaced
 6. Spawn is a safe zone! Do not kill people within spawn and use your discretion for those near spawn.

Don't cheat. If you do we will teleport you to the skydiving plane hovering at the top of the map.

One Last Thing! The map might be subject to periodic... surprises. Stay tuned!

We're caught up!

1.5.1 is here! Your spawn/bed point may have been reset. GO TO SLEEP, YOUNG'UN.
We had to swap CommandBook out for Essentials, so yell if /me or such isn't working.
The Nether has been trimmed at about radius 508 from the actual center of the world. There is quartz.
If this thread fills up, please don't start a new one; wait for Nuka.

Space has been set aside in the Northern Desert for a wither fight arena. Supplies are on hand.

From the thread:
The Witherena
The time has come to battle withers for honor and nether stars.

I have laid out a square border of netherrack in the desert near Rylos-Phet and the Tyrant's Palace (NE Desert, Phet portal in the nether). This space is dedicated to a wither arena, aka the Witherena. This is a public build and I'm hoping you all will build an amazing arena.

The guidelines for the build are simple:
1. At the end of the build, netherrack will be turned into bedrock.
2. The exterior walls must be solid and at least 2 blocks thick.
3. The killing floor must stay within the border.
4. Beds and storage are provided on site in the Witherena Construction Office. (Hey, this isn't a guideline!)
5. The arena must keep the wither inside. Since the wither is 2 wide, simple doorways should be secure.
6. The exterior should look nice and not like a bedrock box.

Easy, no?

I'm no expert at arena's or any other sort of build but I have a few thoughts on this one:
A. Beds and storage for contestants
B. Enchantry
C. Spectator Galleries
D. Armor repair station
E. Beacons have a area of affect and could be built just outside the arena. For added fun, pistons attached to buttons/pressure plates in the arena and blocks over the beacons could be used to block and expose the beacons to the sky, forcing the contestants to trigger the beacons. The buttons/pressure plates may have to be replaced between rounds, but those are cheap.

Keep in mind that the wither can destroy any block other than bedrock so any and all decoration within the arena itself is subject to destruction.

There are 6 double chests of netherrack in the Construction Office basement and I'm happy to go and fetch more as needed. I should be in and out of Minecraft all weekend if anyone has any other questions or wants to use me for monkey work on the arena.

The server will remain at 1.4.7 for some time, so don't update your client side to 1.5! I mean. At least if you want to play on the server. I guess I can't tell you what to do... but you'll miss us! (If you're interested, you can use MagicLauncher to swap between different .jars so you can play both!)
