Facilities Overview


The UCSB electron-beam facility 
consists of
  • Cameca SX-100 electron microprobe with a CeB6 filament, an EDS detector, a CL detector, and 5 WDS detectors:
    • LPET/LLiF
    • LPET/LLiF
  • FEI Quanta 400f field-emission, environmental scanning electron microscope with an EBSD detector, BSE detector, SE detector, EDS detector, and a CL detector
Associated Instrumentation
The facility is supported by extensive associated Earth-Science instrumentation, including
  • petrographic microscopes, cameras, and thin-section scanning equipment
  • Nu Instruments Plasma HR multi-collector ICP with twelve Faraday cups and four low-mass ion counters
  • Nu Instruments AttoM high-resolution single-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer
  • Photon Machines 193 nm excimer laser with HelEx cell
  • Photon Machines 266 nm femtosecond laser with HelEx cell
  • Finnigan MAT-261 thermal ionization mass spectrometer
