CSD Department of Southeastern Louisiana University

Welcome to the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
The mission of Southeastern Louisiana University’s program in Communication Sciences and Disorders is to facilitate life-long learning in the areas of normal and disordered communication processes, to foster the appreciation of communication differences within multicultural environments, to conduct formal and informal research to expand the profession’s knowledge base, and to train ethical, competent, and caring clinicians.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers undergraduate and graduate coursework that provides students with academic and clinical experiences. Undergraduate students may complete the program with the necessary hours to obtain a license from the Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology (LABESPA) or a certificate from the Louisiana State Department of Education to practice as speech-language pathology assistants (SLPAs). Graduate students majoring in speech-language pathology obtain academic and clinical training required for the Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This department is CAA accredited.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders provides professional services to school systems, medical, and rehabilitation facilities within the University's community to assist in strengthening their programs for individuals with communication disorders.
