How does one visit Chinatown anyway? Its just a bunch of random streets with no central area to head for! -- Well, thats sorta the point, you never know what you might stumble upon in Chinatown. It might be a great dim sum place, or a barrel full of live crabs spilled onto the sidewalk by a vendor. One thing for the tourists to keep in mind, Chinatown is cheaper than the other major tourist areas, get your San Francisco items there! Click on the link for more information and pictures.
I've heard Fisherman's wharf is a tourist trap, why should I go there? For one, your kids will love the stinky sea lions that hang out at Pier 39. Its a great place to get a fast, relatively cheap sourdough bowl of clam chowder for lunch or see a zany street personality. Also, going on a bay cruise is a great way to see the city, Alcatraz, and the golden gate bridge. Click on the link for much more info and pictures.
Union Square is a shopper's heaven. Its also a central place to stay. Visit all of the fancy shops and restaurants or see a show. It is also the prime spot to catch a cable car and people watch.
The Cable Cars are one of San Francisco's most popular attractions. Riding one can save you from walking up and down many a steep San Francisco hill.
