For the past few weeks I have really been dragging. I have been sore and tired all the time and it has really been bringing me down. Last night I decided that I had wallowed enough and it was time to take some action. I formulated a multi-pronged attack plan that was sure to make some positive impact. Part 1: go to bed earlier. Part 2: ice more regularly. Part 3: stretch more. Seems simple enough.
After dinner, I stretched on the floor in the den while half-watching basketball on tv. My presence on the floor signaled to the dog that it was playtime. Which was fine. I tried to simultaneously stretch and play with the dog with mixed results, but I think it was a decent success. I got some stretching done and the dog had a fun time playing fetch and chewing on me.
Following my "stretching," I announced that I was heading off to get ready for bed. It was 8:45. Matt asked if I was feeling okay, and I explained that this was my new plan for success. I was hoping to be sound asleep by 9:30. Matt said "oh. ok." I was in bed shortly after 9:00 and laid there ready for sleep. And then I laid there some more. And then I laid there some more. I got up to go to the bathroom and the clock said 10:30. Boo. I had been trying to fall asleep for an hour and a half already! Matt came to bed shortly after 10:30 and I think I finally fell asleep around 11:00. Which is when I usually go to bed. Which seems to have defeated the purpose of going to bed at 9:00... Additionally, once I did finally fall asleep, I kept waking up thinking that I had overslept. By the time my alarm went off at 5:00, I am pretty sure I was more tired than usual.
Accordingly, I was super grumpy on my warm-up over to the Progress House, but we had a huge happy group this morning despite the crappy weather and my grumpiness immediately dissipated upon arrival. I couldn't be grumpy with all the hugging and smiling and good morning-ing going on.
My run was good, and I think my foot is feeling better than it has for the past week or so. I iced my knee a little when I got home from practice, and I made more ice cups so that I can ice it more thoroughly tonight. Despite the initial hurdles, I am still planning on executing my three part plan. Maybe tonight I will try going to bed at 10:00 instead of 9:00. Maybe I need to ease into the early bedtime a little more.
