A Season for Nonviolence is a national 64-day educational, media, and grassroots campaign inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It runs from January 30 to April 4.
A Season for Nonviolence has received written support from the Dalai Lama of Tibet, the late Coretta Scott King and Dr. Robert Muller. It has been recognized in 200 cities in 40 states and 10 countries. At least 350 organizations, religious, business, arts, and learning institutions have elected themselves as official campaign co-sponsors.
On January 9, 2007, Long Beach City Council unanimously adopted a motion led by Councilmember Suja Lowenthal to officially recognize and support A Season for Nonviolence.
