Hi, I am a marine ecologist who studies nearshore shallow water marine community ecology, specifically temperate coral and kelp systems on the southern New England coast. I am currently a Chairperson & Professor of Biology at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut & Co-Director of the Werth Center for Coastal and Marine Studies.

Introduction

Please examine our lab updates and other pages linked to this homepage above!

Our field (so much fun) and lab projects relate to three interconnected concepts in marine ecology that link organismal biology and community ecology: restoration of kelp forests in southern New England using green gravel, coral-kelp-sponge-urchin-turf algae interactions, and dormancy in the temperate coral Astrangia poculata.

We are an inclusive lab that works to embrace and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion and are committed to building an anti-racist, safe, and supportive environment for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We welcome all people and diverse perspectives regardless of race, gender, social class, disability, or sexual orientation. Importantly, we recognize that diverse voices benefit our community and science.

We acknowledge the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Narragansett, Wampanoag, Niantic, Nipmuk, Shinnecock, Mohegan, Quinnipiak, Eastern Pequot Reservation, Golden Hill Paugussett, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, The New England Coastal Schaghticoke Indian Association & Tribal Council, and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe where we live, work, and conduct our research.
