Teaching Portfolio

I completed my PhD (2014) in Earth and Environmental Science as part of the Natural Resources and Earth Systems Science PhD program at the University of New Hampshire. Among my most valuable experiences as a graduate student was teaching the labs for Introduction to Soil Science, which led me to become increasingly interested not only in teaching undergraduate science, but also in improving the way science is taught. It was at this time that I was presented with the opportunity to be the research assistant for the re-structure of Introduction to Soil Science (now Studio Soils). I saw this as an excellent opportunity to increase my experiences in teaching, developing curriculum, and researching teaching methods. Through this work I became increasingly interested in learning more about curriculum design, innovative teaching methods, and the science of learning, and so I took Developmental Perspectives on Adulthood and enrolled in the Cognate in College Teaching. These experiences were instrumental in my growth as an instructor and undergraduate education researcher. After obtaining my PhD I briefly taught at Great Bay Community College, then did a 2 yr post-doctoral research associate position in Melissa Aikens' Biology Education Research Group in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of New Hampshire. I am currently a research associate working on the Teaching Quality Framework Initiative at the Center for STEM Learning at the University of Colorado Boulder (Aug 2018-present).
