FALL CONVENTION

Conference Theme: Advancing the Humanities
Save the Date: SCA of SD annual meeting for 2016
Friday, September 9- Saturday, September 10, 2016, Watertown

On behalf of the Executive Committee, you are invited to participate in the annual meeting of the Speech Communication Association of South Dakota in Watertown, September 9 and 10, 2016.  Our conference theme this year is “Advancing the Humanities,” and for the first time, we are coordinating our conference with the South Dakota Council for the Teachers of English.

We invite educators and scholars interested in attending and presenting in secondary and post-secondary education, research and scholarship, and debate, theatre, and forensics.   We extend a special invitation to young scholars and educators to present their research.

We will be welcoming several keynote and guest speakers, including Matthew Moen, Chair of the Board of Directors of the South Dakota Humanities Council and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at USD, as well as Brooks Bowman, Assistant Executive Director for Fine Arts with the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

The University of South Dakota will offer continuing education credit (CEU) and academic credit (pending SDBOR approval).  Please contact Jill Tyler (jill.tyler@usd.edu) for more information.

For your convenience you may register for the conference online at: https://scasd.eventsmart.com/events/scasd-2016/.   To assure a spot at the banquet, please submit your registration by Friday, September 2.  Registration payment can be completed online or made (cash or check) at the conference.  All presenters and participants must register for the conference.

See the attached call for submissions for instructions on how to submit your papers and Great ideas for Teaching Speech (GIFTs), proposals, posters, panels, and workshops.  The full program will be available on the website by mid-August.

Please make your hotel reservations at the Watertown Event Center (Best Western Ramkota, 1901 9th Avenue SW, Watertown, SD  57201, 605-886-6127).  Because our room reservations complement the meeting room rental, the hotel cannot honor the state rate.  We have, however, secured a discounted group rate, so ask for the Speech Communication Association block of rooms.  To assure the group rate, register before August 16!

Make this the year that you invite a colleague from your school to show them what SCASD can offer them!  See you in Watertown!
