Shantanu Rane (S’03 — M’07 — SM’12) earned a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, California in 2007, a Masters degree in electrical engineering from The University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 2001 and a Bachelors degree in instrumentation engineering from Pune University, India in 1999.

He has previously worked at the National Center for Radio Astrophysics (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Pune) and at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He currently manages the Cyber-Physical Systems Security research area at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). His research interests are in signal processing, applied cryptography and information theory.

He has participated in standardization activity for the Joint Video Team (JVT) under the ITU-T/MPEG H.264/AVC video compression standard, INCITS-M1, the US National Body for standardization of biometrics, and the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC37 Subcommittee on Biometrics. He has served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (2012-2015) and the IEEE Signal Processing Letters (2012-2014).
