Sittingbourne & District Pool League - Announcement - August 5th 2020 Hi All
I hope everyone is well and apologies for the delay in getting this out and replying to messages but the majority of queries should be answered below:
Out of 31 Teams, 26 have responded and 22 of those agreed to restarting the League with 4 saying No; of the 5 Teams yet to respond, 4 are in the 2nd Division which would therefore not have impacted the decision (please see below).
Premier Division – 10 out of 12 Teams expressed a wish to continue, 2 wished not to continue; all second half results for the Gore Court A and Stumble Inn D Teams will be voided.
1st Division – 10 out of 11 Teams expressed a wish to continue, 1 (the Park Tavern A Team) has yet to respond; this will be clarified shortly.
2nd Division – Unfortunately the decision has been made that the 2nd Division will end as it is. This is based on the fact that with 2 Teams saying they did not wish to continue there would have been only three matches possible and two of these involve a Team that has yet to respond but has given an initial suggestion they will not continue leaving the possibility that there would be only one match. After looking at the situation after voiding the second half matches played, the positions would not have changed from where they are now.
KO Competitions – These will be completed with further updates shortly. Please note that any players still involved in KO Competitions who are in Teams that have expressed a wish not to continue in the League will be allowed to continue in the KO Competitions if they so wish; this is a temporary amendment only.
In summary, the League will restart on Monday the 10th of August 2020 for the Premier and 1st Divisions with the following guidance / amendments:
- Social distancing guidance at venues must be observed. - Players’ details will need to be given at venues (please note that if preferred, one person from each Team can be nominated to give their details as a contact). - We suggest one person is nominated to rack the balls at the start of each frame for the match and to retrieve the cue ball if it is potted during the match. If Teams prefer, one person from each Team can be nominated but this should be confirmed prior to the commencement of the match. - Players should sanitize their hands prior to starting each frame. - Players not involved in the frame being played should be sat down. - Rests and / or spiders should be sanitized before the match and after each use during the match. - Players should not offer handshakes before / after frames, though sporting behaviour should be maintained. - The provision of food at League matches is suspended. - Any issues concerning social distancing, sanitizing of equipment etc. should be forwarded to the League as soon as possible. - New players may still be signed on as long as they have not played for another Team during the current 2019 / 2020 season
I have attached revised fixtures for the remaining matches and the Website will also be updated later today.
In answer to some of the questions levied:
- We fully respect each individual Team’s wishes regarding whether to continue or not but also took into the consideration the majority preference. - There were opinions that the “League was over” so why continue; despite the fact that the Premier Division may be all but decided (though Vanessa’s Team will not like me for saying this), we have three Divisions and although we have had to take the decision to end the 2nd Division it was still fair to make an overall decision based on the Teams’ responses which have been a “Yes” in the majority. - We felt that, despite there only being 5 weeks left of the League, there are also the KO Competitions which are all (bar one) at the Quarter-Final stage or later. - We also felt that playing the remaining League fixtures and KO Competitions would allow any questions or issues not thought of to be dealt with rather than starting a new season and running into immediate problems. - All venues have been contacted to confirm they have social distancing in place alongside sanitizing facilities; if there are any other concerns, please contact the League as soon as possible. - A concern was raised about players’ details and the security of these; if preferred, the Team Captain can leave their details at the venue as a means of contact and their details are available on the contact list already. - We are affiliated to the EPA and KCPA and although they have yet to update further, we took the preferences of our League Teams into consideration and also the notion that the EPA will have to consider the National rather than Local position.
I hope that answers some or all of the queries, but please email sdplfixtures@gmail.com if there is anything further you would like to add or query.
Thank you All for your support and help.
Thanks
Dave Sittingbourne & District Pool League - Announcement - July 29th 2020 All Teams, Captains, Players and Venues
We hope everyone is well
We held a League Committee meeting on Tuesday 21st July to discuss the current situation and also how to proceed once a restart is possible. The consensus is that the current 2019 / 20 Winter League season, along with the Knockout competitions, will be completed before we commence with a new season; venues have been / are being contacted to see which are available and to ensure they have safe practices in place that would allow League matches to recommence.
We appreciate that there will no doubt be differing opinions as to when / how to restart our League but the proposed restart for the League is Monday 10th of August. If you wish to comment on this or have any questions, please e-mail sdplfixtures@gmail.com so we can review any queries / concerns.
We would also add the following:
- Social distancing guidance at venues must be observed. - Players’ details will need to be given at venues. - We suggest one person is nominated to rack the balls at the start of each frame for the match and to retrieve the cue ball if it is potted during the match. - Players should sanitize their hands prior to starting each frame. - Players not involved in the frame being played should be sat down. - Players should not offer handshakes before / after frames, though sporting behaviour should be maintained. - The provision of food at League matches is suspended.
Thank you Sittingbourne & District Pool League - Announcement - July 6th 2020 We hope everyone is well In line with the current English Pool Association stance (please see below), current Kent County Pool Association guidance and continued Government advice, we are monitoring the situation but expect no resumption of our League during July. We are discussing a number of options as to how to restart the League but this will obviously be governed by when we can safely restart with the safety of the Players and their Families continuing to be paramount. The EPA placed the following message on their website on the 1st July:
The Sport and Recreation Alliance has informed us that the DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) has advised that fitness and sport activity should not take place in indoor venues which are able to reopen from 4 July. Therefore, pool clubs would be able to open their bars/restaurants but no sporting activity would be able to take place inside. As soon as we have any updates they will be added here and e-mailed to the current contact list; please send any queries to: sdplfixtures@gmail.com Thank you Sittingbourne & District Pool League - Announcement - March 18th 2020
Due to the current situation regarding the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak we have unfortunately, but understandably, taken the decision to suspend all League matches and KO Competitions with immediate effect until the 30th April 2020. This is in line with Government advice and also the English Pool Association and Kent County Pool Association who have also suspended events. The situation will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the hope is that the remaining Winter League fixtures and Winter League KO Competition matches will be completed over the coming weeks / months. This decision has not been taken lightly and we know this will have an impact upon the League and the Venues but the safety of the Players and their Families must be paramount.
Captains – Please pass this information on to your Venue, any queries may be sent to sdplfixtures@gmail.com
