AIIMS BASIC EMERGENCY CARE COURSE

Objective: It will help in improving the basic emergency and trauma care knowledge, skills and change the attitude of the healthcare workers as well as non-health care providers at the end of the course.

 Eligibility of the participants

Any person who is interested to learn and save lives can undertake this course

Study Module:

This will focus on basic emergency care of the common emergencies encountered such as  cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, acute coronary syndrome, recognizing stroke, drowning, electrocution, foreign body obstruction, basic trauma management, snake bite and poisoning. This will also focus on basic resuscitation which will help in giving insight to the care providers before the course. The course material will be provided 15 days prior to the course so that the attendee can read the course material in advance.

Course Content

a. Knowledge session: Mini Lecture Series

Part 1 will focus on basic emergency care of the common emergencies encountered such as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (adult and paediatric),acute coronary syndrome, recognizing stroke, drowning, electrocution, foreign body obstruction, basic trauma management, bleeding and splinting as well as  management of  snake, scorpion and bee stings.

b. Visual session: Audio-visuals

The session will feature videos. It will give visual input to the participants about the basic resuscitation measures done in a trauma as well as in a non-trauma victim.

c. Skill Session: Practical Skill stations

There would be two skill stations (A, B) .The skill based practical sessions would be based on mannequins; stations A and B would deal with emergency and trauma care.

Participants will spend 45minutes at each skill station and then swap. In the skill station A the instructors will impart practical training about cardiopulmonary resuscitation and Station B will feature initial resuscitation of a trauma victim.

 Method of Assessment of the participants:

  • Pre-test and post-test Questionnaire of 25 Multiple choice Questions will be given.
  • Overall Assessment of knowledge, skill as well as attitude of the participants will be done during the course and potential instructors will be identified.

Method of Assessment of the Instructors and Course:

  • Feedback forms will be distributed at the end of the course.
  • The form will feature the grades of evaluation in terms of Content of the course, Presentation quality, Instructor’s communication skill, Infrastructure and Audiovisual quality.

Certification:

The participants will receive a certificate certified by All India Institute of Medical sciences, New Delhi.
