About Us

SCTPBA currently has interests (members or potential members) in 8 counties in Central and South Central Texas.  Our initial organization meeting was held June 18, 2011 and we had 18 people to sign up saying they wanted to be members.  We are incorporated in the state of Texas as a not-for-profit association as of July 2011. On June 14, 2012, we received our 501(c)(3) tax exempt status with the IRS.  Membership has grown rapidly from members of the previous South Central Texas Prescribed Burn Co-op, an unofficial organization with similar goals and practices.  As of late July, 2016, we have around 60 active (dues paying) members.  Many of those are family memberships, so they represent nearly 100 individuals.

If you would like to be on our mailing list to be aware of burns that are planned or to be informed of training opportunities that come up, we can add you to our "friends" list.  No dues are required, but we will not burn on you place unless you are an active member.  Still, it is a good way to learn about prescribed fire and to see if you want to become an active member.
We are open to adding new counties that adjoin the existing counties as long as we have enough members from the new counties to be able to adequately staff a burn. If you would like to join our association but do not have property in one of the current counties where we have members, please contact James Robinson (james.g.robinson@att.net).
