The Showcase

Class of 2013!

The eighth grade will be graduating in just about six weeks!  There are some very special graduation activities planned for June.  The eighth grade already went on our class trip on April 17th.  They went to the Wax Museum, lunch at Planet Hollywood, and saw the Blue Man Group.  Everyone had a great and memorable time!

The eighth grade dance is at the Spring Lake Heights Community House on Friday, June 7th.  The theme is going to be Candyland!  Sunday, June 9th is going to be the Baccalaureate Mass at St. Margaret's Church.  There will be a breakfast following.  The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 11th.  Finally, graduation will be on Friday, June 14th.

Let's Do Yoga!

Yoga makes you feel better.  Practicing the postures, breathing exercises, and meditation makes you healthier in body, mind, and spirit. Yoga lets you tune in, chill out, shape out - all at the same time.  Research shows that yoga helps manage or control anxiety, arthritis, back pain, asthma, blood pressure, heart disease, stress, and other conditions and diseases.
    Yoga:
-Improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength, and stamina
-Reduces stress and tension
-Boosts self esteem
-Improves concentration and creativity
-Stimulates the immune system
-Creates sense of well being and calm
We were very fortunate to have Mrs. Kelly McEvoy, certified dance/yoga instructor and parent of Grace in 4th grade to spend a week with us in Physical Education class.
Allowing the children to experience self awareness of their bodies and what they are capable of and to learn relaxation, breathing techniques, balancing, focusing, and an overall workout for their bodies and minds which will enable them to carry over the techniques into the classroom and their daily lives.  Children need strategies, skills, and ideas for coping with stress.  By learning relaxation skills may help students achieve a healthier lifestyle now and in the future.  The students were receptive and challenged themselves to perform the poses that were presented to them.          All in all, it was a great week for the students as well as myself.  I feel very fortunate to have the students experience this wonderful and invigorating class.
